Whoa! Fisherman catches giant shrimp

Fort Pierce, Florida — This shrimp isn’t an average crustacean. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posted several photos on Facebook from fisherman Steve Bargeron, who watched a fellow fisherman hook a massive crustacean at a dock in Fort Pierce, Fla. These types of crustaceans have eyes on stalks that can move independently of one another, FWC said on its Facebook page. Bargeron described the creature to FWC as being about 18-inches-long, and striking its own tail. It was grabbed by its back like a lobster. Scientists haven’t determined the exact species. It could be a type of mantis shrimp and are continuing to review the photos to determine its identity.
