LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A gun buyback event held Wednesday was so popular that LAPD officials ran out of the gift cards they were using as an incentive.

The program was moved up by city officials from May 2013 to Dec. 26 following the Conn. elementary school shooting that left 26 dead, including 20 children.

The buyback event was hosted by the Los Angeles Police Department and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Gang Reduction and Youth Development Program.
